This year, I will be participating in The Prouty along with thousands of my fellow community members who will bike, walk, row, golf and more to raise money for Dartmouth Cancer Center.

The last few years have been especially tough in my family with 7 family members being diagnosed with new cancers, both rare and more common. These cancers were able to be treated successfully, unable to be treated successfully, diagnosed very late, very aggressive, and or unable to be treated due to lack of treatment options. 

Since becoming an oncology nurse in 1995 I have been absolutely amazed with the progress we have made in early detection and the advancements in treatment options. These advancements in immunotherapy, targeted therapies, improved imaging, etc. combined with improved symptom management were not well known to me in 1995 and now are standard care and improving every day. This would not be possible without research!

We are seeing amazing survival rates, and a wonderful quality of life during this survival. We are seeing a greater number of people living with and well beyond cancer, and for many this would not have been possible in 1995.

We still have soooo far to go and I need your help to get us there! We need to do the research to ensure that all cancers can be detected early, and that all cancers have a treatment option, so that all of our family and friends have to best chance possible to live beyond cancer.

More than one third of all people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetimes.* It’s a universal problem that touches everyone, including the most important people in our lives. That’s why I joined The Prouty. All of the funds I raise go toward cutting-edge cancer research and crucial patient support services at the Cancer Center. Hope starts here!

All funds raised will help fund innovative researchers and clinicians who are dedicated to finding ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. Prouty funds also provide meaningful patient and family support services that are otherwise unfunded—such as support groups, massage, art therapy programs, transportation and grocery assistance, and more.
