Welcome to My Personal Page
This year, I will be participating in The Prouty along with thousands of my fellow community members who will bike, walk, row, golf and more to raise money for Dartmouth Cancer Center. Together, we will go all in to end cancer.
My name is Sharon and in 2021 I was diagnosed with Endodermal Sinus Tumor Stage 2B also know as Yolk Sac Tumor cancer, and Stage 1A Endometroid Endometrial Adenocarcinoma (Uterus cancer). I went to my primary doctor having abdominal pain thinking it was diverticula, to be sent to have a scan of the abdomen done. After CT scan I was asked to wait in the waiting room until the doctor called me. In receiving the call I was asked to go directly to the emergency room. There I spent 3 days waiting to find a surgeon to remove a 16 x 10 x 17 cm multicystic pelvic mass attached to the ovary. I had a radial tumor debulking with a full hysterectomy in Florida. With removal testing was done to determine what the tumor was and it was examined in Florida, Texas and finally at Dartmouth the type of cancer and what treatment would be. Yolk Sac tumor is found in juveniles and young adults so it was difficult to conclude that a 60 plus would have this cancer. After a period of time determining what I had, Dartmouth decided on the cancer treatment of BEP. I felt fine after the removal of the tumor but agreed to chemo treatment as there may be lingering cells. I received 3 rounds of BEP and stayed positive through the whole process. I have to give a lot of credit to my sister Gail who had been fighting PMB (appendix cancer) for many years. Her positive attitude and hard work at fighting cancer were an inspiration. The cancer center at Dartmouth was very caring and attentive. This was a difficult time as the Covid Pandemic was happening so mask and aloneness was common. I am now 2 ½ years ( 3 years at Prouty) later I feel great and I look at life as I am not in remission, I am cured. Of course I am a realist and we have discovered that several of in our family have a hereditary gene RAD51 that increases our chances of cancer so the future will be full of if’s but I believe each day is for living your best life. An important event in my life now is the Prouty, Dartmouth’s cancer center fundraiser. This was very dear to my siter Gail and I will continue to support this great cause.More than one third of all people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetimes.* It’s a universal problem that touches everyone, including the most important people in our lives. That’s why I joined The Prouty. All of the funds I raise go toward cancer research and crucial patient support services at the Cancer Center.
Here are two ways that you can help support patients, doctors and caregivers in the fight against cancer:
- Join me! Register for The Prouty today.
- Make a gift to my Prouty fundraiser and help me reach my goal. Click the ‘donate’ button to support my efforts in the 2024 Prouty. For a $20.00 donation to my page you will receive a friendship pendant or wave ring. Will need to contact me with your mailing info onlysilv40@aol.com
All funds raised will help fund innovative researchers and clinicians who are dedicated to finding ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. Prouty funds also provide meaningful patient and family support services that are otherwise unfunded—such as support groups, massage, art therapy programs, transportation and grocery assistance, and more.
Thank you for your support!
Together, we are changing lives. Together, we will end cancer.
I am registered for the Prouty Walk in 2021.
