My father had cancer when I was young. One day he found a lump in his neck and not long after was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.  It was a scary time in our family but surgery, radiation treatment and an excellent team of doctors and nurses all helped him survive.  A few years later I lost my grandfather on my dad’s side to pancreatic cancer and not too many years after that I lost my grandmother, also on my dad’s side, to the same disease. Since then both of my uncles, my dad’s  brothers, have had bouts with cancer.  One is recovering but not out of the woods yet.  I also have an uncle on my mother’s side who is currently battling cancer. That’s just my family, not to mention the countless number of friends and acquaintances I have that have been affected directly or indirectly by cancer.  

Putting it simply, cancer sucks.  

This year, I will be joining my father in participating in The Prouty Ultimate (a 200 mile bike ride over two days in July) along with thousands of my fellow community members who will bike, walk, row, golf and more to raise money for Dartmouth Cancer Center. Together, we will go all in to end cancer. 

More than one third of all people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetimes.* It’s a universal problem that touches everyone, including the most important people in our lives. That’s why I joined The Prouty. All of the funds I raise go toward cutting-edge cancer research and crucial patient support services at the Cancer Center.
