The Chapman Family

If you’ve found yourself on The Chapman Family page, there’s a good chance you already know our family. For those who do not, we’d like to give you a little glimpse into who Scott was as a person.

Scott Kelley Chapman was born on April 3rd, 1958 in Springfield VT. He was the youngest of three siblings by a large enough margin that early in his life, he learned to create his own path. The route forged was influenced heavily by music, track and field, and anything he could make with his hands. There were also many notable stops along the way; including one to Hawaii where he had a good laugh with the FBI in LAX, and another to South Carolina where he met his future wife Olivia, eventually having three very lucky children.

Once fatherhood was in full swing, the energy for some of those further reaching adventures turned into roots that grew strong throughout the Thetford community. From raising his own children, housing almost all of their friends, to coaching hundreds more, Scott lived his life for the betterment of the people around him. Wanting for little more than to see progress in those he fostered, he created an impact the size of which we weren’t aware of until his battle with pancreatic cancer. On June 1st, 2024 Scott passed away in his home alongside his loving family who starkly refused to leave his side, even when he got a little testy about it.

This year, Olivia will be biking in the Prouty to raise money to combat cancer, while her three children (Ethan, Ella and Cole) will support her on the finish line. Later, we’ll all play a few rounds of disc golf through a virtual Prouty program. Scott found much enjoyment in disc golf in the last few years of his life because it was a great excuse to get outside and see his friends. While also scratching that lifelong competitive itch.

Regardless of how one supports, whether that be monetarily, socially, with homemade pies, or even just having Scott and his family in your thoughts, we cannot thank you enough. With all the fond/funny/entertaining/educational memories of Scott we have heard from many of you, we hope to make him just a little proud by honoring him and his fight with cancer in this way.

Thanks,

Cole, Ella, Ethan and Olivia

This year, we will be participating in The Prouty along with thousands of our fellow community members who will bike, walk, row, golf and more to raise money for Dartmouth Cancer Center. Together, we will go all in to end cancer.

More than one third of all people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lifetimes.* It’s a universal problem that touches everyone, including the most important people in our lives. That’s why we have united as a Prouty team to fundraise for cutting-edge cancer research and crucial patient support services at the Cancer Center.

There are two ways you can help us  support patients, doctors and caregivers in the fight against cancer:
  1. Join our team! Register today by clicking the ‘register’ button.
  2. Make a gift by clicking the ‘donate’ button to help us reach our goal. Or you can click an individual's name to donate to their personal fundraising efforts.
All funds raised will help fund innovative researchers and clinicians who are dedicated to finding ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. Prouty funds also provide meaningful patient and family support services that would otherwise be unfunded—such as support groups, massage, art therapy programs, transportation and grocery assistance, and more.

Thank you for your support!
Together we are changing lives. Together we will end cancer.
