Event FAQ

The 16th Annual CHaD HERO will be a hybrid event. The majority of the event will take place virtually from September 19 - September 26, 2021, with an in-person 5K Run planned for September 26, 2021 in Hanover, NH.* *Please note that the live portion of the event is contingent on CDC, state, local, Dartmouth College, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health guidelines at that time.

The CHaD HERO schedule of events and CHaD HERO Day details can be found here.

If you've got questions, we've got answers! If you don't find the answer here, contact us by email at CHaDHERO@hitchcock.org or by phone (603) 308-2236. We're happy to help.

What are the COVID-19 protocols for the in-person 5K Run?

After taking a break from the in-person CHaD HERO last year, we are incredibly excited to be hosting an in-person 5K Run this year! However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic requires us to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and those who participate in the CHaD HERO 5K Run. In order for us to have a safe, fun experience at the CHaD HERO, please help us in the following ways:

  1. If you are ill leading up to the CHaD HERO, please do not attend.

  2. If you are not vaccinated, please consider participating in one of our CHaD HERO virtual activities.

  3. Masks are required in all indoor spaces for all participants and in some outdoor areas regardless of vaccination status -- this includes bib pick-up, food tent, on buses, and at the start and finish lines. You may remove your mask outdoors when at least 6 ft. of distancing is available, but please wear a mask around others.

  4. Please use hand sanitizer often, especially where provided at the food tent entrance before handling food.

Can I register on the day of the 5K race?
No, day-of registration is not available this year. Event registration closes on Thursday, September 23, at 9 a.m. ET.

I'm a returning participant, how do I log in to register?

If you are a recent CHaD HERO participant, you have a HERO site user name that you'll need to use to log in. If you cannot remember your login information, visit the CHaD HERO homepage and click "log in" in the upper right corner, then enter the email address that you would have registered for the HERO with under "Forgot Username or Password." You should then be sent an email at that address that includes your user name and a link to reset your password. Once you have reset your password, you'll be able to log in to CHaDHERO.org and start registering. If you participate in other CHaD or Dartmouth-Hitchcock online fundraising events, your user name and password for those events will also work to log you in to the HERO site.

Can I register other people when I register myself?

Yes. When you go through the process of registering yourself, you will come to a registration summary page and see a square red button that says "Register an Additional Participant" that will allow you to add on registrations. Please note: participants who are registered by someone else will have their own unique user name, password, and personal fundraising page. This includes children who are registered by parents.

My kids would like to volunteer. Is there an age requirement?
For safety reasons, most of our volunteer positions have an age requirement of 18 years. We have a limited number of opportunities that may fit for some volunteers who are 16 years old or older. If you have kids who are at least 16 years old and interested in volunteering, please have them register online and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch with a volunteer assignment. If you have questions about volunteering please contact us at chadhero@hitchcock.org or (603) 308-2236.

Where can I keep my personal belongings while I run?
For security reasons bags may not be left unattended at the event. We do provide a staffed bag drop off location for participants' convenience. Please provide your own clear, waterproof bag and make sure your bag is clearly labeled with your name and contact information. While this area is staffed with excellent volunteers, all participants leave their belongings at their own risk.

Will there be medical support on the course?
Yes. While we hope that you will not need these services, your safety is important to us. Emergency medical support will be available at the medical tent near the finish line with emergency transportation on standby.

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are not permitted on the race course. Dogs are permitted on the Dartmouth Green and around Downtown Hanover. Please follow local leash laws.
