Event FAQ

The 17th Annual CHaD HERO will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2022 in Hanover, NH.*

*Please note that the live portion of the event is contingent on CDC, state, local, Dartmouth College, and Dartmouth Health guidelines at that time.

If you've got questions, we've got answers! If you don't find the answer here, contact CHaD HERO HQ by email at CHaDHERO@hitchcock.org. We're happy to help.

I'm a returning participant, how do I log in to register?

If you are a recent CHaD HERO participant, you have a HERO site user name that you'll need to use to log in. If you cannot remember your login information, visit the CHaD HERO homepage and click "log in" in the upper right corner, then enter the email address that you would have registered for the HERO with under "Forgot Username or Password." You should then be sent an email at that address that includes your user name and a link to reset your password. Once you have reset your password, you'll be able to log in to CHaDHERO.org and start registering. If you participate in other CHaD or Dartmouth-Hitchcock online fundraising events, your user name and password for those events will also work to log you in to the HERO site.

Can I register other people when I register myself?

Yes. When you go through the process of registering yourself, you will come to a registration summary page and see a square red button that says "Register an Additional Participant" that will allow you to add on registrations. Please note: participants who are registered by someone else will have their own unique user name, password, and personal fundraising page. This includes children who are registered by parents.

Questions about teams?
Please visit our Teams page.

Will there be a bike or hike participation option for the CHaD HERO this year?
Participation options for 2022 include running, walking, volunteering, and virtual. We will not be organizing a bike or hike component in 2022, and encourage anyone interested to participate virtually this year. Team Cycle Heroes is hosting their own virtual bike ride.

I would like to participate in Cam's Course with my child AND participate in another event (5K Walk, 5K Run, or Half Marathon). Do I sign up for both events?
Many parents and caregivers like to participate in Cam's Course with their child before they do their own event. Our system does not allow an individual to sign up for more than one activity, so please sign up for your primary activity and not Cam's Course. Your race bib will allow you to accompany your child on Cam's Course.

Is childcare available while I run?
Childcare services are not provided.

Is there a place where I can shower after the race?
Bathing facilities are not available at this time.

Where do I pick up my bib?
Bib pick-up will be available on Saturday, October 8, from 10 am-2 pm and on event day, Sunday, October 9, from 9 am-11:30 am, in Alumni Hall in the Hopkins Center for the Arts (HOP) at Dartmouth College. Check out more event day details here.

Can I hand donations in on the day of the race?
Yes. You may bring donations with you to registration and bib pick-up. Donations should be in an envelope clearly marked with your name so that we can apply the donations to your fundraising total. If you are turning in cash donations, please include a donation form with both your name and your donors' names on it. If you are turning in checks, please clearly write your name on the memo line of each check. Checks can be made payable to "Dartmouth Health Children's/CHaD HERO."

You may also mail donations to:

Medical & Healthcare Advancement
Dartmouth Health/Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth
One Medical Center Drive (HB 7070)
Lebanon, NH 03756

Can I walk the half marathon course?
While participants are welcome to complete the 13.1 mile course as quickly, or as slowly, as they wish, course support ends at 3 pm. Consider participating in our 5K Walk or doing a virtual activity instead!

Is offline registration available?
You can download our offline registration forms using the link below and mail them directly to CHaD Community Relations. Please submit any registration forms prior to Wednesday, October 5, at 9 a.m. ET.

Can I register on the day of the race?
Yes, however pre-registration is STRONGLY encouraged to enable us to adequately provide for a safe and successful event.

Can I run with my iPod or other personal listening devices?
For safety reasons, we do not recommend the use of iPods or other devices on the course.

Can I run with a stroller or baby jogger?
For safety reasons, we do not recommend running with a stroller or baby jogger. If you must, strollers and baby joggers should line up at the back of the start line. If you will be running with a child who is in a stroller or baby jogger, we ask that you please register that child as a virtual participant so that you can fill out an event waiver for them. Please note that virtual participants do not receive event amenities (such as medal, t-shirt, bib, timing chip or participant food).

Does my baby or toddler need to be registered for the event?
For any child who will be on the course but not actively participating, we ask that they be registered as a virtual participant so that you can fill out an event waiver for them. Please note that virtual participants do not receive event amenities (such as medal, t-shirt, bib, timing chip or participant food).

Where can I keep my personal belongings while I run?
For security reasons bags may not be left unattended at the event. We do provide a staffed bag drop off location for participants' convenience. Please provide your own clear, waterproof bag and make sure your bag is clearly labeled with your name and contact information. While this area is staffed with excellent volunteers, all participants leave their belongings at their own risk.

Will there be medical support on the course?
Yes. While we hope that you will not need these services, your safety is important to us. Emergency medical support will be available at the medical tent near the finish line with emergency transportation on standby, as well as EMTs on bicycles along the entire half marathon course.

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are not permitted on the race course. Dogs are permitted on the Dartmouth Green and around Downtown Hanover. Please follow local leash laws.

My kids would like to volunteer. Is there an age requirement?
For safety reasons, most of our volunteer positions have an age requirement of 18 years. We have a limited number of opportunities that may fit for some volunteers who are 16 years old or older. If you have kids who are at least 16 years old and interested in volunteering, please have them register online and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch with a volunteer assignment. If you have questions about volunteering please contact us at chadhero@hitchcock.org.
