Half Marathon, 5K Run, and Cam's Course 1-Mile Fun Run

Whether you're a veteran long distance runner or a newly motivated Couch to 5K-er, YOU can run the CHaD HERO.

Half Marathon

We will be honest with you, the half marathon is a challenging course. This is northern New England and flat terrain isn't our specialty. But, we will inspire you up with cheering spectators, music and fun signs. In the words of one participant, "If CHaD kids can endure multi-year cancer treatments, extended stays in the Intensive Care Nursery or learn to live with a chronic illness for the rest of their lives, I can make it up a hill."

There are water stops approximately every 2 miles along the half marathon course which also provide Powerade, GU Energy gels, and runner assistance if needed. There are port-a-potties located along the half marathon course, and a team on bikes patrolling the entire course to provide runner support.

Be sure to take advantage of the pacers who will be spread out along the course at various running paces starting at a 7 minute pace and ending at an 11 minute pace. Pacers will be in bright orange t-shirts so you won't be able to miss them. A special thank you to the Upper Valley Running Club for coordinating and providing pacers for the HERO!

5K Run

The 5K run and 5K walk share the first loop of the half marathon course. The terrain is gentle looping through the Dartmouth College campus, and Hanover, NH's Occom Pond. It is a great option for anyone, including kids who want to run with an adult and try their first running event.

There is one water stop along the 5K course that also has Powerade for runners.

Cam's Course

Named after CHaD patient, Cameron "Cam" Marshall, who inspired his classmates and community to walk and support him, Cam's Course is a family-friendly 1 mile fun run/walk for everyone. It is often where we find our littlest HEROES giving it their all and learning what it means to give back.

Cam's Course kicks off at 11 am on the Dartmouth Green. While Cam's Course is an untimed fun run, ALL Cam's participants are #1 in our book and receive a #1 race bib.

We do ask that a parent or guardian participate with their young child/children in Cam's Course. If the parent/guardian is registered for another event element, additional registration is not required. Strollers are permitted at the back of the pack on Cam's course.

Be sure to visit the ECEA tent in the KidZone on event day before Cam's Course begins! They will have materials to do a Cam's Course scavenger hunt.
