2021 CHaD HERO Details

The 16th Annual CHaD HERO will be a hybrid event. The majority of the event will take place virtually from September 19 - September 26, 2021, with an in-person 5K Run planned for September 26, 2021 in Hanover, NH.*

In-Person 5K

  • *Please note that the live portion of the event is contingent on CDC, state, local, Dartmouth College, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health guidelines at that time.
  • As of September 10, 2021, we have received the green light to do a masked, mass start 5K Run. However, we will continue to collect the information needed for a staggered start 5K Run, in the event that we need to pivot to that once again. When you register, you will be asked your pace per mile for a 5K, your expected finish time, and (if applicable) the name of a family member or partner who you will be running with. (For a staggered start 5K Run, any duos planning to run together must enter the same anticipated pace/finish time to ensure that you are paired together for the start.)
  • Registration fees for in-person 5K Run participants are $15 for youth (ages 17 and under) and $30 for adults (ages 18 and over).
  • We plan to cap In-person 5K Run registration at 1,000 total participants. Spectating is discouraged.
  • Day-of registration will NOT be available.
  • We are waiving fundraising minimums for this year, however fundraising is still strongly encouraged and we have a variety of fundraising incentives for participants.
  • Awards plates hand-painted by kids will be awarded to the top three overall women, men, and nonbinary in-person 5K Run participants.

Virtual Participant

  • You can do your classic CHaD HERO activities like run, walk, hike, bike, or complete your own Virtual Quest activity -- hike the Appalachian Trail, race across the state, do a read-a-thon, the sky's the limit! Complete your activity anytime, anywhere, from September 19-26.
  • Registration fees for virtual participants are $10 for youth (ages 17 and under) and $20 for adults (ages 18 and over).
  • Not being tied to a specific geographic location means that you can expand your team and donor base and, ultimately, elevate your fundraising efforts for CHaD.
  • We are waiving fundraising minimums for this year, however fundraising is still strongly encouraged and we have a variety of fundraising incentives for participants.

Registration for the 2021 CHaD HERO closes on Thursday, September 23, at 9:00 a.m. ET.

Health and Safety Expectations for the 2021 CHaD HERO In-Person 5K Run

After taking a break from the in-person CHaD HERO last year, we are incredibly excited to be hosting an in-person 5K Run this year! However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic requires us to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and those who participate in the CHaD HERO 5K Run. In order for us to have a safe, fun experience at the CHaD HERO, please help us in the following ways:

  1. If you are ill leading up to the CHaD HERO, please do not attend.

  2. If you are not vaccinated, please consider participating in one of our CHaD HERO virtual activities.

  3. Masks are required in all indoor spaces for all participants and in some outdoor areas regardless of vaccination status -- this includes bib pick-up, food tent, on buses, and at the start and finish lines. You may remove your mask outdoors when at least 6 ft. of distancing is available, but please wear a mask around others.

  4. Please use hand sanitizer often, especially where provided at the food tent entrance before handling food.
