What is The Prouty?

Where Hope Starts and Cancer Ends

The Prouty is northern New England’s largest family–friendly fundraising event benefiting Dartmouth Cancer Center–where thousands of cyclists, walkers, rowers, golfers, tennis players, volunteers, and supporters unite for one powerful mission: to end cancer.

The Prouty started in 1982 after four Dartmouth Cancer Center nurses, inspired by their cancer patient Audrey Prouty, rode 100 miles through the White Mountains to honor her journey and raise money for others facing the same battle.

That single act of determination sparked a movement. Forty–five years later we've raised more than $78.5 million for life–saving research and compassionate, comprehensive care at Dartmouth Cancer Center. While Prouty funds advance ground–breaking research for new treatments and cures, they also support expansion of clinical trials and important patient and family support services. In 2025, The Prouty smashed records by raising more than $10.2 million. With an unprecedented match from the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Foundation in 2026, we’re aiming for our most ambitious goal yet: $12 million.

Still, The Prouty is about way more than numbers. It’s about courageous survivors. It’s about families honoring loved ones. It's about friends riding together. It's a community where hope starts and cancer ends.

The Prouty is produced by the Friends of Dartmouth Cancer Center, dedicated to supporting the life–saving work at Dartmouth Cancer Center, a world-renowned cancer treatment and research facility affiliated with Dartmouth College, The Geisel School of Medicine, and Dartmouth Health.
