What is The Prouty doing about the Lyme/Thetford Bridge Rehabilitation Project?
- The Lyme/Thetford Bridge Rehabilitation Project has been on the Prouty’s radar for some time. The bridge will close starting in April of 2023, until it’s scheduled completion in October of 2024. Working with local municipalities and law enforcement agencies, alternative cycling routes have been determined. Homebound riders on NH. Rte. 10 will be diverted southward onto River Road starting in Orford, NH. River Road is in good repair, with many sections of the roadway having been resurfaced within the last year, it will make for an enjoyable ride with scenic views of the Connecticut River.
What are the dorms like at Dartmouth?
- They are lovely, single-occupancy rooms. The dorms for this year's event are located in Mass Hall. Linens are provided. The cost of housing on Thursday night at the dorms is $79. Friday night dorms are included in the registration fee.
Do you have mechanics on the road on Day 1 of the Ultimate?
- We will have technical support riders (on bikes) who will ride interspersed amongst participants on Day 1. These riders will wear distinct color jerseys to be easily identified. There will also be technicians roving the course in vehicles to help stranded cyclists or cyclists with more significant mechanical problems. We encourage all riders to take advantage of the free bike inspection which will take place Thursday afternoon, or at the start area on Friday morning, 5-5:45 am. We have found that most issues arise in the first 10 miles of the ride.
Can I ride less than 100 miles on Saturday in The Prouty?
- We’ve found that many Ultimate participants join their family and friends in a shorter distance on Day 2. There is no requirement to ride the full 200 miles - and you can pick any distance and activity on Day 2. You can even choose to row or walk on Day 2 as an Ultimate.
What resources are at the aid stations?
- While at the Prouty venue at RMS, medical personnel are available at the Prouty medical tent. Additionally, EMTs are stationed at each bike SAG stop, along with bike tech personnel. Please keep in mind that bike techs are there to assist participants with true mechanical needs and simply do not have time to complete a tune-up for you on the day of The Prouty. Ensure for your success by having your bicycle in the best mechanical condition possible.
What support is available while I am on the course?
- While on the course, there are Prouty support vehicles roaming around to assist participants. In addition, you can always call the number for Prouty Incident Command Center (603-646-1593) and initiate support. This phone number can be found on the back of your bike plate/bib.

What happened to the 50-mile route?
- The 50-mile route is cancelled for 2024. As you may be aware, a significant rock slide took place in February on Interstate I-91 in Fairlee, Vermont. In response, Vermont’s Agency of Transportation has closed the interstate to all southbound traffic between Exit 15 in Fairlee and Exit 16 in Bradford, and is detouring all southbound interstate traffic onto VT. Rte. 5 in Bradford, which, is a primary corridor for Prouty cyclists. The scope of this work will extend beyond July, and with over 8,000+ vehicles being diverted daily, it is simply unsafe to proceed with the 50-mile ride in this area. We hope to bring the 50-mile route back in 2025.

Uh-oh. I already registered for The Prouty and selected rowing as my event, but I now realize I don't meet the criteria above.
- No problem, you may change your event selection yourself by going to your Prouty HQ and "Edit my profile." Or you can contact us at 603-646-5500 or email us.
Will the event be canceled if the weather is bad?
- Like all regattas, the event may be canceled, delayed, or shortened if the conditions are dangerous. This generally is limited to lightning, thunder, or high winds. The money that you have raised to participate in the event, however, will still be put to good use to help end cancer! The Prouty Party will take place regardless of the weather.
